Electronic Instrumentation (EI), Department of Microelectronics
Biography
Richard C. den Dulk was born in Leidschendam, in 1945. He received his technician's certificate at the former UTS (now MTS), the Hague, an engineering degree in electrical engineering from the 'Haags Polytechnisch Instituut, the Hague, and the Ing.-degree (B.Sc.) from the 'Hogere Technische Avond School,' Rotterdam, in 1964, 1969 and 1971, respectively. In 1978 he received the Ir.-degree (M.Sc.) in electrical engineering from the Delft University of Technology (DUT). In 1989 he received the Dr.-degree (Ph.D.) from the Delft University of Technology with the thesis entitled "An Approach to Systematic Phase-Lock Loop Design".
In 1964 he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at Delft, where he worked on HF and VHF receivers, automatic tracking systems for meteorological satellites, and the implementation of PLL-systems and PLL-circuits. As a matter of course his academic activities have grown to include engineering education and courseware. In 1980 he developed a post-academic course on phase detectors and developed and taught a regular course in Phaselock Techniques until 1996. In 1992 he developed an engineering course (IPP) for students in their 3rd year to plan and implement a solution for a specific problem in a project context as a sort of mid-term exam. This "project approach to education" turned out to be a very successful project. Recently alumni voted this course as the most contributing to their DUT electrical engineering study. In 1996-1997 he developed in co-operation with many faculty members a new lab course for 2nd year students on "Measurement Techniques", covering the complete electrical engineering area.
He was a member of the Faculty Council of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Delft from 1983 till 1987. From 1986 till 1995 he has been a lecturer on several lab courses on "Electronics and Measurements", lecturer on courses on "Measurement Techniques" and a supervising tutor (afstudeerdocent) all part-time at the 'Avond-HTS, Haagse Hogeschool,' the Hague. He is a member of the scientific association 'Nederlands Elektronica- en Radio Genootschap' (NERG). In April 1989 he was appointed a member of the governing board of the NERG. He was active with organising several educational and scientific meetings for the association till 1995.
In September 1997 he moved to the Electronic Instrumentation & Measurement Laboratory of the DUT where his present research activities are on wireless sensors and actuators. He is also supervisor of the lab course on "Measurement Techniques" for Electrical Engineering students and supervisor of the lab course on "Electronic Instrumentation" for 3rd year Applied Physics students. Since 1995 he is a "tutor for freshman" (IWEE), where students are introduced to the scientific techniques en methods in electrical engineering.
